Fedora Core Five
TODO:: pixel-fc5.yum.tar.gz
Back to
Fedora Linux
General
If the windows key does not work, add the following to
/etc/X11/Xmodmap
add mod4 = Super_L
RealPlayer
In order to play music in
Amarok, you must install
Real Player, unfortunately :(
go to
www.real.com/linux and download and install
RealPlayer10GOLD.rpm
Amarok
yum install amarok
Amarok requires
RealPlayer to play mp3's on FC5. Once
Real Player is installed, set the following options in
Amarok.
Go to
Settings > Configure amaroK > Engine. Ensure
Output Plugin says
alsa and that the
device says "default".
As the
Helix/RealPlay core, set
/usr/local/RealPlayer/common
As the
Helix/RealPlay plugins, set
/usr/local/RealPlayer/plugins
As the
Helix/RealPlay codec, set
/usr/local/RealPlayer/codecs
Restart
Amarok - you may need to log off and on again. You should now be able to play mp3s.
Alternative
Alternatively, you can use
Amarok with
xine - which handles mp3s and FLAC. For this you need the
livna repos in your yum config.
yum install amarok-extras-nonfree
restart amarok and you can now use xine as the engine
Amarok
yum install mplayer w32codec this will install mplayer and all the codecs available
Java
By default, FC5 installs the default GCJ Java cack. Go to
java.sun.com and choose you version, either 1.4.2 or 1.5
Screensavers
yum install gnome-screensaver xscreensaver-*
restart X
